I read about pride and humility in the purpose-driven life today. And I felt, like I feel many times when reading the book actually, that God was talking to me.
It is so amazing that sometimes when I am confused over something or when something is nagging at me but I can't identify what it is, I read the chapter for the day in purpose-driven life and it beautifully answers my questions or identifies things in my life I didn't even know about.
Sharyn was right today when she said that a good way to make difficult decisions was to talk to people, especially people who were spiritually more mature. This is because, she said, God speaks to us through other people. HOW TRUE IT IS! I shall speak more to people yes (:
About pride and humility.
Pride blocks God's grace in our lives, which we must have in order to grow, change, heal and help others.
We receive God's grace by humbly admitting that we need it. To develop humility it is important to admit your own weakness, be open to correction, point the spotlight on others, and
be patient with others' weaknesses.
Phillipians 2:3-4 says, "Give more honour to others than to yourself. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others"
Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it
is thinking of yourself less and more of others. Humble people are so focused on serving others, they don't even think of themselves!
This brings to mind the story in the bible when Jesus knelt down on the floor and washed the feet of his disciples. When the son of God is so dedicated to serving other people, who are we to be proud?
Thank you God for helping me to see this! I shall try very hard to remember this in everything I do.
