I had always been wondering about this. About how we know what kind of decisions to make. Sometimes peple say "ask God", but what do you do if you don't hear God's answer? (Sharyn asnwered that for me when I asked her that question. It's in my last post!) Sometimes people say "leave it to God", but where does God come in since we are supposed to have free will? But then again God is supposed to know everything, even what choices we are going to make (not the same as determinism because we make the choices ourselves, He just knows in advance).
Then Rachel told me that when we wonder what decision to make we just have to think- is this for God or against God?
And if it is neither way, you can choose anything.
Whatever it is, you don't have to worry because whatever decision you make, whether right or wrong, God will make it such that it is in line with His will.
Where does
free choice and everything come in then? It comes in other kinds of decisions we make. When we decide to help somebody in need, when we decide to speak out against something that is wrong, when we decide to give someone a smile. Oh did you know that not doing something good when you could have is a sin too? You don't sin just by doing bad things. That is why in the penitential rite at mass we say:
"I confess to the almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I've done, and
in what I have failed to do; and I ask the blessed Mary ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God"
I hope the above made sense. I haven't really straightened out my thoughts but I really wanted to get it down so that I wouldn't forget!
Hm I don't feel that I understand everything but oh well everyday is a learning day. If we human beings had got everything sorted and figured out already then we could be like God already!
