Today I read Jia Kang's book, 26a by Diana Evans, and it was such a beautiful book (:
The author has such a keen understanding of being human, and she was able to put this across so aptly in words, when I was unable to communicate this before.
AHHHHHHHHHH.
I thought the ending was a bit weird, what with one twin (the book is mostly about this pair of twins) dying and sort of going into the body of the other. But then I read reviews on the internet and there was of course a deeper meaning behind it and ahh it was a very nice book (:
And I think its so cool that the author was a twin herself and her twin died in adulthood too. But then of course it is kind of expected because you should write best about what you have experienced yourself.
Here are some of my favourite lines! (But they are out of context so they don't seem as impactful anymore :()
(When the twins purposely did their hair in a certain way so that people did not laugh at them)
"It saved them from themselves"- don't you think this is a really sad line! :( :( :( I was so sad when I read it :(
"Georgia had the thought that human beings were nonsense" "Stars die and just before they die they're the brightest they've ever been"And then this guy, Toby, he said that people are happiest when they are able to think, and
"think of nothing". Because when you think and all you can think of are troubles and stressful things you are not happy.
And the last one! Which never occurred to me before, I always thought the youngest ones are the most loved and doted upon, but it makes a lot of sense--
"They say the youngest child is the strongest child, because she had to make you love her, when you were tried, when you had loved the others first"And the book was such a sweet book. The 4 siblings really knew each other. And their dad and their mum, they turned out alright in the end, after so many many many years of being at odds with each other.
And, and, and I think it was so cute that everything was tied to the the marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
I feel so INSPIRED to read more books (: Yay thank you Queenie and Jia Kang for your books (: I shall go and bug more people to lend me books (:
Haha maybe reading books does really affect your senstivity to the language and lit and everything. Ah maybe I've just realised too late how to get better at lit :(
